Eat To Gain Article

I stumbled across this article on FB. I find it interesting and mostly true. Some would disagree.
http://www.musclespro.com/2011/11/10-ways-to-eat-for-gaining-in-right.html
Take it as you may.
My Opinions:
This claims that after a workout, your bod needs a fast digestible protein not a slow one-I agree. It says that a protein meal (aka meat) takes too long to digest so your muscles are not getting the proper nutrients right away so while you think you have fed them, they are still starving. The say a protein powder is key to have right away; your bod digests it right away supplying those starving muscles with amino acids.
Lots would disagree and say that whole foods are just fine and you don't need to rely on powders.
I see results either way and I do both. I know plenty of pple on IG that use supps as some that do whole foods; they both look fab and know their shiz.

What do you do post workout?

New Starbucks Creation!

So I love coffee and Starbucks and oh yes COFFEE!!!
I like to experiment with drinks there and make them basically or under 20cals and SUGAR FREE!
I am a member so I had 50% off any frapp. I knew I wouldn't get a normal so I changed it:
*I ordered a mocha frapp with SF mocha, no milk, sub the milk so cold coffee*
OMG so much better than a regular one because the coffee flavor is so prominent with just enough sweetness.

Rest Day? or Off Days?

So on FB, I follow or like tons on CrossFit pages and I stumbled across this story from the Rx.
http://therxreview.com/katie-hogan-the-issue-of-recovery-in-training/

Take it as you may; I'm not saying this is true or accurate, just giving you guys something to contemplate.
*My Opinion*
While I do believe in having rest days or active rest days, I can totally relate to what she is saying. When I take full rest days where I simply lay around and don't do anything, at some point in the day after I've relaxed a bit, I feel like doing some form of exercise. If I don't and I take the full day off, I feel so lazy and tired and worn out. Sure the next day I come back ready to kick some arse but I'm 'tight.'
I have personally taken multiple days off in a row (Vegas trip on New Years), and man coming back was so freaking hard! My body was out of sync, my lifts were off, my energy wasn't up to par, and I just couldn't get going.
A body does need rest especially after hard WODs, or CrossFit Comps, or fitness comps where it's being pushed to harsh limits.
For me perhaps, if I were to be coming off a comp I would do a few active rest days like rowing or something simple.

Any thoughts?

Buckwheat (groats) Granola

Buckwheat Groats Granola:
-2 c buckwheat groats
-4 tbsp flax seeds or meal
-2 tbsp chia seeds
-1/2c nuts (I used pecans)
-1/2c shredded or flakes coconut
-2 heaping spoonfuls of coconut oil (prob 1/3c)
-2 heaping spoonfuls of nut butter (prob 1/3-1/4c)
-1/3c honey
1. You can soak your groats if you want but I didn't. So if you do, soak overnight and rinse and let dry.
2. Mix dry.
3. Melt wet together.
4. Add wet to dry. Stir really well so all is covered.
5. Pour in pan lined with foil.
6. Bake 300F for 20 mins then take out to flip. Cook for another 15mins.

7. Take out and slide off pan so it doesn't continue to cook.
8. Let cool. This is where it'll harden and form the clusters. Don't rush this step!
*this is not a sweet granola so you can add stevia to the wet ingredients if need be.
*this can be doubled.
*makes half freezer bag.
So I topped mine on my protein shake.
It's a coffee, greens, choc protein smoothie. (I used Cellucor's Molten Chocolate Protein-discount code:PeaceLoveFit)
I of course had to try it with PB.

Homemade Protein Poptart

So I decided to give this whole homemade poptart thing a try since ive seen it all over IG:
I mixed Cellucor's PB marshmellow protein, banana, coconut flour, PB, & water into a thick paste, dropped it onto a ezekiel tortilla, folded and grilled. Made choc frosting with Cellucor's molten choc protein and water.
*So as I made it, the mixture inside actually started to cook into a bread-y texture so next time I'll leave out the coconut flour to have more of a doughy consistency like a real Poptart. Also try adding Greek yogurt to the mix to have it more doughy; I don't eat dairy so I just opted out for that an added more banana.
*There are so many ways you can change this up-this was simply a very simple recipe. You could do a different protein flavor (strawberry, chocolate, or whatever you have), use different add-ins (fruit, nuts, nut butter, seeds, jam etc), and frosting! Plus you can use any tortilla or wrap you want.

Free Starbucks

My free Starbucks birthday drink:::
Vente, iced Americano, light ice, sugar free mocha, SF hazelnut, SF vanilla.
This was about 10 calories. And I sipped it through your two days.
(If you have the Starbucks app or a card member you get this bday deal).

Such thing as overtraining? Or is it in your head?

I snap shot this from IG, one of my followers posted it.
You know I do take one day off a week and sometimes I'm like "eh I feel like working out!" But the following day, I'm like "man I feel great and ready to go!"
This makes me think though...a crossfit mantra is "No days Off!"
what do you guys think or believe?

Recipes Galore!

So I just spent some time going through my iPhone photos and man, the majority are all recipes from my amazing FitFamily on Instagram! I am constantly taking snapshots of eats that I find interesting or good enough that I want to try.
Now I'll eventually make it through all 177 recipes...yeah eventually lol. Mind you I deleted ALOT and yet I'm still left with that many! Gotta love IG; seriously is motivation provider for anyone and everyone.
Now I have been wondering how to actually get these recipes off my phone? Well then I figured I could go to Costco, plug in my phone, and get them all printed and then stick them into a photo album. Though since I used picstitch on all of them to compile the picture of the food and the recipe, I'm not sure if it would fit I a regular picture size print out.
Anyone have experience with that?
Thanks FitFam for all your yummy recipe ideas!
